Taking coal-bearing soil which ranges along with Guang-Wu expressway for research object, by experiments in laboratory, the improving effect of coal-bearing soil improved with cement and lime is analyzed comparatively, and draw conclusions that lime is not a suitable modifier for coal-bearing soil and modified coal-bearing soil with 3% cement can requirement for roadbed filler. On this basis, mechanical deformation characteristics of cement modified coal-bearing soil were studied. The results indicate that cement can greatly improve the engineering characteristics of coal-bearing soil and the compressive strength and deformation modulus increase with cement-mixture ratio increasing, but the increasing tendency of deformation modulus tend to decrease with the increase of cement-mixing ratio.
