Abstract :
Column and tie construction timber frame is a typical style of the traditional timber structure, whose column and beam are connected by using mortise and through tenon joint. To study the static performance of through tenons, we exemplify the typical three tenons found in the wooden dwelling in west of Hunan province in china. In this paper, we have did some mechanical analysis about how three types of joints working, and establish three types solid finite element model to simulate their stress state under load. By comparing the static performance of these tenons under three different locations with pins, the joint performance of column and tie construction timber structure is studied, which provides theoretical basis for the prospective maintenance and reinforcement of some traditional column and tie construction timber structures.
