Abstract
A multivariable regulator for a hot strip mill is designed which is tolerant to a failure of the strip tension measurement. The reliable controller is obtained using a robust stability criterion with ℋ ∞ controller synthesis. As well its ensuring that the system remains stable when the measurement is lost a bound can also be put on the drop in performance
