  • Abstract
Polymer concrete is a composite material. It is not a hydraulic cement concrete but a graded mixture of coarse and fine aggregates (including special micro-fine fillers) bound together by an appropriate organic resin system. Polymer concrete is a field-proven dielectric material for high voltage applications. Since it has performed well in out-door environments for nearly 15 years, it should have no difficulty in performing at least as well in protected environments. Polymer concrete is mutually compatible with transformer oil. Field applications of dry-type polymer concrete transformers are beginning to emerge. Polymer concrete has the potential to offer significant cost advantages over presently used epoxy systems, without compromising any technical requirements relevant to functionality
