Abstract
Multi-pulse voltage source inverter topology having a number of 6-pulse VSIs as elementary units is widely used in high power applications. This paper is aimed to present a detailed analysis of the harmonic components present in individual VSIs of a 48-pulse voltage source inverter and mitigation of these harmonics so as to produce a sinusoidal wave output. The analytical expressions for the 48-pulse inverter output voltages using Fourier analysis have been obtained. Vector diagrams are drawn to clearly illustrate the mechanism of harmonic cancellation in multi-pulse inverters. The complete digital simulation of 48-pulse VSI is performed using MATLAB/Simulink and the simulation results closely agreed with the analytical results.
