Abstract
Miscellaneous fill caused by road excavation and renovation usually has complicated components. Due to its complexity of composition, it is often difficult to put it into engineering application directly. A series of field research on the origins of typical miscellaneous fill mixed with various municipal solid waste (MSW) had accomplished. To detect its property and road performance, comprehensive experimental tests were then completed by selecting representative soil specimens. After that, a three-level classification system with related technical indicators was proposed to well classify different types of miscellaneous fill mixed with MSW and easily evaluate its engineering value. Meanwhile, according to relevant construction codes and requirements, laboratorial study made use of soil modification methods by adding lime as additive to improve the road performances of soil specimens used as subgrade fillings. Relatively ideal experiments results had been attained. It also reveals the optimistic potentials for similar materials and solidification treatments for future engineering application.
