Abstract
Theoretical study on the influence of the laser pulse (LP) shape on the characteristics of laser acoustic signal (LAS) thermoelastically induced by CO2 laser acoustics (LA) in water was performed. LAS profiles, energy conversion efficiency, and power spectra were investigated theoretically. The results show that with the peak-tail shape CO2 LP, the peak and the tail contribute to LAS exciting together, but the peak has a more obvious affection to LAS, the role of the tail becomes important when its relative intensity to the peak increased or its duration been near the duration of the peak. Narrower LP has higher energy conversion efficiency eta.
