Abstract
The influence of the three-dimensional tree structure on the polarimetric and interferometric radar responses of coniferous forest stands is investigated. Trees of identical biomass and slightly altered structure exhibit considerable differences in both responses, suggesting that simple empirical models relating biomass to radar backscatter may be insufficient for the inversion process
