Abstract :
The intelligent chipcard as a personal security device is being introduced in many application fields. If a document has to be concealed in order to provide confidentiality, it has to be encrypted. The user´s instrument for producing an electronic signature and for decryption of an encrypted message is an intelligent chipcard. The main characteristics of such a chipcard are outlined. Particular attention is given to cards based on the RSA encryption algorithm of R. Rivest et al. (1978)
