Abstract
Piecewise linear (PWL) sharpeners are a recently introduced class of image enhancement techniques where the ability to perform detail sharpening and noise smoothing is based on the choice of an appropriate PWL function. In this paper a new multiparameter PWL model is presented. Its nonlinear behavior can easily be adjusted in order to achieve a satisfactory combination of contrast enhancement and noise attenuation. The effects of different parameter settings are discussed.
