Abstract :
Bangladesh has just joined the SEA-ME-WE-4 submarine cable network consortium. The 10 Gbs bandwidth of this network is expected to serve Bangladesh´s needs. Bangladesh having a submarine connectivity internationally will open a new era of communications. Telecommunications Infrastructure requires both backbone network and the last-mile access for enabling a country to have efficient telecom and Internet connectivity. There is a connectivity gap exists between the backbone network and the last-mile access network. To deliver the high-speed, last mile connectivity, we have proposed Free Space Optics (FSO). Free Space Optics (FSO) is one of the most promising new access technologies where optical transceivers transmit laser beams directly through the atmosphere to form point-to-point high-speed communications links. We have discussed and analyzed the details technical issues related to FSO deployment in context of Bangladesh.
