Abstract
Core point detection is a crucial task in fingerprint based biometric processing. In this paper, we propose a two-stage algorithm for core point detection in fingerprint images. The first stage determines the existence of core point region. The second stage determines the actual core point by ridge component identification followed by unwanted component elimination and core segment detection. To substantiate the efficacy of our approach, we have experimented with FVC-2004DB3 database. According to the experimental results, we are able to achieve more than 96% accuracy in core point detection.
