Abstract
This paper introduces a digital copy protection scheme by bringing the recording medium identifier printed on the read-only part of recording medium and the copy control information on the rewritable part of recording medium together. Content providers would concatenate recording medium identifier and copy control field, and make digital signature for this concatenated data. Consumer device that is compliant to the scheme verifies this digital signature to check whether data on medium is legally copied or not. If the content is allowed to copy only once, the consumer device copies it to destination medium and marks the medium as no more copy is allowed using same digital signature scheme. By using this scheme, we can distinguish original medium from copied one. This means that we can achieve both copy protection and copy generation management for digital data recorded on digital recording medium
