Abstract :
We study error control for an MPEG2 digital video compression scheme. We propose to combine error control coding together with error concealment. Classical error detection is used to locate errors in the compressed video bitstream. This information, together with information provided by the syntax of the compressed bitstream, is used to perform the error concealment. Thus the concealment is performed in the compressed video domain. The introduction of a new concealment method which relies on the redundancies that the syntax of the compressed bitstream provides, is the main contribution of this work. Another contribution is the performance evaluation between the proposed scheme, a general error correction scheme, and a simple case, where no effort is made to correct existing errors
