Abstract :
We propose a “media environment” to provide various communication media according to different communication purposes. We design and implement a media description language, which is a programming language to describe “media” and execute it to realize such a media environment. The media description language defines each media with a set of data and operations, and provides several functions to handle media definitions. With these functions, we can define new media, instantiate it, and compose media with several media. We can refer the definition of media and transport it with some other media via the network. Thus, with a media description language, it is possible to provide suitable media for each communication purpose
