Abstract :
Power transformer failures mostly arise from winding faults. Detection and localization of winding faults is essential for preventing damages to the transformer. This contribution is aimed at locating faults by using the impedance characteristics of the winding. Sweep frequency measurement and analysis is done on a 22 kV continuous disc winding. Methods for determining the extent and location of faults have been developed. The developed method yields a generalized algorithm for locating faults in transformer windings.
