Abstract
This paper presents a novel approach to solve the problem of condition assessment of fluids used in electrical systems. A low-cost system to measure the void fraction of a fluid using electrical resistance tomography (E.R.T) has been designed and implemented in this paper. Electrical resistance tomography is mainly used for determining the conductivity distribution within conducting fluids. Using this system, condition monitoring of fluids can also be done in real time. A new technique of simulating the experimental setup has been demonstrated using ANSYS 13.0 ICEM CFD and ANSYS 13.0 FLUENT. The experimental results are shown to promisingly approximate the simulation results.
