  • Abstract
In recent years, nanoscience and nanotechnology have attracted much attention and have posed much significant potential in many areas of societal interest. For instance, opportunities are presented for help solving global energy needs with environmentally clean solutions, increasing the quality of life through improved medicine and health care, improving the productivity of agriculture industry, and providing the benefits of information technology everywhere. Recent development of nanomaterials has enabled ever-clean cloths and nanobiosensor devices. NEMS in concert with nanoelectronics would help develop intelligent nanorobots for unique applications. In Feynman\´s words, "There is a plenty of room at the bottom." Although semiconductor industry calls its sub-100nm technology as nanotechnology, the room is much bigger than that of nanoelectronics. In this talk we will review the status along with potentials in various fields. Further we will discuss what can bring the realization of nanotechnology industry with some degree of acceleration in the world that becomes flatter and promotes international collaborations and competition.
