China´s urbanization and the economic development in southwest region gives rise to a higher requirement on the townscape construction of small towns. A better landscape of small towns can improve their environment by integrating natural environment with urban environment, which lays a strong foundation to create characteristic garden town. On the other hand, good landscape of small towns can highlight local culture and enhance their identity, which is of importance for tourism development in terms of space and landscape. Taking Huangshui in Shizhu Tujia Autonomous County, Chongqing as an example, this paper is a research on landscape planning and design of small towns in southwest China. By an in-depth research on research method, research content, landscape improvement objectives, strategies and related construction control model, this paper is expected to become a reference for other southwest small towns.
