Abstract
Two dynamic packet allocation (DPA) schemes for the uplink of cellular packet switched systems are proposed and their performance is compared through simulations. The packet reservation multiple access protocol (PRMA) and its variant, PRMA++ are used as the underlying MAC protocols, although results apply to other protocols as well. Previous work in using DPA techniques with PRMA demonstrated the potential benefits of the combination, but the radio occupancy achieved remained low (less than 20% at a dropping probability of 1% and interference probability of 5%). Our algorithms achieve better than 35% occupancy at a harsher interference environment and with stricter packet loss requirements
