Abstract
There is growing interest in the dispersive properties of Bragg gratings for applications. The dispersive properties in uniform Bragg gratings and some kinds of nonuniform gratings have been presented in Erdogan (1997). However, to the author´s knowledge, the dispersive properties in phase-shifted Bragg gratings used in transmission mode have not yet been analysed. Motivated by the lack of such an analysis we investigate the dispersive properties in phase-shifted Bragg grating filters, both optimized and not optimized for ripple-free transmission spectra; we present qualitative explanations for our results, which give general physical insight, a more complete understanding of, and a means for visualizing the transmission in phase-shifted Bragg grating filters. Our investigation provides some fundamentals for the study of pulse transmission through phase-shifted Bragg gratings and other studies.
