Abstract :
Two possible methods exist for receiving circular polarization with travelling wave microstrip arrays such as the comb line array. One is to use linearly polarized elements in conjunction with a polarizer; the other is to use circularly polarized elements. We compare the performance of the two methods in a DBS receiving antenna application as described by Henderson and James (1987). This antenna is intended to be mounted on a vertical surface and the main beam is squinted upwards to point to a satellite in geostationary orbit.
