Abstract
Two aperture array antennas, both being composed of two elements, are analyzed using the FD-TD method: one is backed by cavities and the other is backed by a flat plate without cavities. The parallel plate mode power in the two array antennas is expressed by the Poynting vectors. Further analysis is made for an aperture array antenna composed of eight elements backed by cavities. A beam tilted from the broadside direction by 20/spl deg/ is designed using the pattern multiplication method. The experimental data are presented and discussed.
