Abstract
We propose a new algorithm for the compression factor control (CF-CTRL) when the JPEG compression algorithm is used. It can be used, for example, in the digital still cameras (DSCs), where a minimum number of photos must be stored in a fixed size memory storage. So each file size must be constant. The most used compression algorithm used in the DSC is the JPEG one, that do not ensure a fixed file size, so a compression factor control algorithm must be used. This new method is based on the analysis of the Bayer pattern, the color pattern obtained by a CCD or a CMOS sensor, obtaining the JPEG quantization tables that ensure the target dimension of the JPEG file. The main characteristics of this algorithm are speed and power consumption
