Abstract :
Optical disc based video recorders have become available. We discuss the application format for a system based on an advanced optical rewritable system (DVR-blue). The high rate and capacity of the system enable recording of HDTV and new features like simultaneous record and playback of SDTV material along with seamless playback of edited material. We show that a set of allocation rules for the data combined with reference drive performance guarantees simultaneous record and playback for SDTV streams (⩽10 Mbps) using the concept of a large physically contiguous collection of data called a fragment
