Abstract :
Static VAr compensators (SVCs) are used in power transmission networks in order to improve the system´s performance. As transmission networks have individual characteristics, each SVC has to be designed to meet he requirements of the network to which it is to be connected. During various stages of design, development and commissioning of SVC equipment various simulation techniques are used to verify design criteria or refine the control characteristics. The simulator described in this paper is a low cost portable model of a simple power system, SVC power components and their associated real control circuits
