Abstract
The authors describe a technique for removing voltage harmonic distortion encountered in uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs) and active power line conditioners by variable voltage gain, with potential applications also in active filter design and arbitrary waveform synthesizers. They have adapted voltage amplitude modulation (double sideband, large carrier) for performing harmonic cancellation of power signals. They then validate the concept for power signals using a dynamic MOSFET tap switching autotransformer regulator under load for sinusoidal reconstruction and regulation. Alternative closed-loop AC switching regulator implementations are also mentioned
