Abstract
Attenuation and differential attenuation at 35 GHz have been previously proposed for use in estimating rainfall rate R. It has been suggested that specific attenuation at 35 GHz is linearly related to R and that this relationship is fairly insensitive to the drop size distribution. A 35-GHz dual-polarization propagation link was built and successfully tested for measuring R using differential attenuation (Ruf et al., 1996). The present authors evaluate the sensitivity of rainfall rate estimates obtained with this system to raindrop canting and oscillation, and to drop size distribution variations
