Abstract
The SF6 rotating arc technology has been used in the medium voltage range circuit breakers (12-36 kV). The paper describes the modified Mayr´s model applied to a rotating arc to analyse its behaviour during thermal recovery period. The thermal recovery period is governed by the post arc current, transient recovery voltages and the loss processes. Post arc currents are computed for fault currents upto 25 kA, 3 bar gas pressure and different imposed rate of rise of recovery voltages (RRRV). Limiting RRRVs have been determined for successful interruption
