Abstract :
The first generation TTU-T and IEC standards related to optical transmission systems using optical amplifiers have emerged. Based on those activities, optical network-related standardization are now started. Operators and manufacturers need to carefully find out which aspects should be standardized and which should not. The timing of standardization is also important relative to market activities under the competitive environment. Information from regional standard bodies, various test beds, forum and consortium should also be taken into account. Results of the SG15 WP4 expert´s meetings (Sept. 97) are also reported in the presentation
