Abstract
Embedded software development is becoming increasingly difficult because of technical and commercial pressures. This paper assesses the state of the embedded software development discipline, examines where it is now by posing a set of challenges, evaluates the state of development of key technologies, and lastly presents a vision for how embedded software development might proceed in fifteen years time.
