Abstract :
A planar sensor is described which can be used for a measurement of the dielectric constant and loss angle of the near-surface of the ground. The sensor is a useful tool for assessing lossy ground, e.g. clays and salty conditions prior to the use of ground penetrating radar. This sensor is also considered as an anomaly detector for shallow buried objects and results are given for a trench and a plastic anti-personnel mine
