Abstract :
Two models for synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging of underwater bottom topography are compared in order to estimate the relative importance of a full modelization of SAR processing and hydrodynamic modulation. It is concluded that backscatter contrasts are better estimated when velocity bunching and azimuth smearing are taken into account, even when a simple model for the hydrodynamic modulation is used
