Abstract :
One compact spectral-amplitude-coding optical code-division multiple access system for passive optical network is presented. With the cyclic property of arrayed-waveguide grating (AWG) routers and the partially cyclic property of the modified m-sequence codes, the transmitter use two AWG routers and one fiber Bragg grating to generate each user´s normal and complementary codeword, thus the optical line terminal require simpler hardware for complementary encoding. In the optical network unit of each user also shares decoding devices in a similar way and multiple-access interference (MAI) is eliminated. Thus complementary coding is accomplished with cheap and simple configuration and the system performance is improved as compared to previous proposed SAC systems
