Abstract
Important applications of electromagnetic energy are induction and dielectric heating. New directives and standards in Europe are threatening such applications. The authors discuss the details and shortcomings of the standards and compare these with the actual electromagnetic environment. The standards involve higher costs and may slow down future applications. Guidelines are presented for compliance with equipment electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and with human safety when exposed to electromagnetic fields (EMF)
