Abstract :
Carbon emission reducing in ship industry is quite important in the world. Currently there are two main methods provided by IMO for estimating CO2 emission from a ship, they are the draft guidelines on the method of calculation of the new ship design CO2 index and the energy efficiency design index calculation method. For the purpose of calculating carbon emission of shipping industry, the CO2 emission from a 5000 DWT chemical tanker is estimated by adopting the two methods in this paper. The results obtained are closed to the current average level of ships´ carbon emission. The conclusions show that both of the two estimating methods are suitable for estimating the CO2 emission of the 5000 DWT chemical tanker and the CO2 emission of the chemical tanker in operating stage is less than that in shipbuilding stage.
