Abstract :
Regarding process control engineering in plant manufacturing and process industry the changing architecture of automation arintroduced. To cope with distributed (intelligent) systems in this field the description of communication and configuration of these systems needs to be solved more efficiently. The requirements of distributed intelligent systems are summarized and a vision of a language for domain communication is introduced. The idiomatic control language is evaluated as a basis for this language. The result of the evaluation isthe enlargement of the requirements for a new language called PCDL (process control description language).
