Abstract
This paper presents a concept for a scalable multifunction RF (SMRF) system that allows the RF functionality (radar, electronic warfare and communications) to be easily extended and the RF performance to be scaled to the requirements of different missions and platforms. A trade-off analysis is performed between a wideband and a multiband SMRF architecture. The conclusion of this analysis is that a multiband SMRF architecture is preferred because it is easier to scale in performance and functionality at a lower cost than a wideband SMRF architecture.
