Abstract
Single-carrier frequency domain Equalization (SC-FDE) systems, which offer similar complexity and performance to Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems but enjoy a lower peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR), are promising techniques in the future generation of wireless communications. In this paper, an improved SC-FDE system is proposed, in which the cyclic prefix (CP) is only inserted in front of even frames. In the receiver, the even frames are detected using conventional FDE techniques while two methods named overlap-save (OLS) FDE and overlap-add (OLA) FDE are proposed to detect the odd frames. Simulation results show that the improved SC-FDE receiver based on OLS FDE method can outperform about 0.5 dB Eb/N0 over conventional SC-FDE system. Hence the proposed SC-FDE system can enjoy a higher spectral efficiency as well as save the sent power in the transmitter with respect to conventional SC-FDE system.
