Abstract
As known, the EPRML systems, based on EPR4 (extended partial response class IV) signaling and VD (Viterbi detectors), have advanced greatly in high recording density system while the complexity of hardware is also increased. Several methods have been proposed to reduce complexity of VD such as full VD, GVD (generalized VD), FVD (folding VD) for EPRML systems. Recently, DFVD (double folding VD) has emerged as a promising technique in reducing complexity, achieve acceptable BER performance. In this paper, we proposed a modified of DFVD, implement and compare the complexity of various VD. The result is verified by Matlab tool, VHDL and synthesized by using 0.18 mum process and FPGA
