Abstract
It is shown that simulation can be used to enable students to the study complex algorithms and protocols. User requirements are considered in detail and how these translate into software and user interface design. For each simulation it was possible for a single person to design both the interface and any consequent mathematical analysis along with any protocols that need tobe satisfied. Two case studies are presented that show different problems produce very different outcomes in terms of how well a particular case study approaches the ideal simulation.
