Abstract
In wavelet subband coding, scalar adaptive quantization is found to be insensitive to model estimation. That is, adaptive quantization schemes via different model estimation routes lead to similar distortion performances. In particular, two analyses are provided to substantiate this finding. One corresponds to adaptation with overhead (non-parametric and continuous data) and the other corresponds to adaptation without overhead (parametric and quantized data)
