Abstract :
Applications of sensor networks have become an emerging technology which can monitor a specific area and collect environmental data around a place. The energy constraint inherent in the small battery powered nodes presents a considerable problem, and much effort is being put into reducing the power consumption. Using the best single path results in high frequency of flooding and high power consumption which are overcome by using multipath routing algorithms. It is found that multipath routing protocols has the advantage of sharing energy depletion between all the sensor nodes. In recent years a variety of new multipath routing protocols have been developed specifically for wireless sensor networks (WSN), but no realistic performance comparison between them has been attempted. In this paper, we conduct a detailed, empirical evaluation of the performance of multipath routing protocols.
