As companies have repeatedly downsized it should not come as a surprise that concern about job security has grown, particularly in organisations where problem solving and improvement groups operate. The feeling that by helping to improve productivity and efficiency employees are cutting their own throats is beginning to emerge quite strongly. We have to find ways to counteract these feelings through redeployment, retraining and, where appropriate, through security agreements of the type recently pioneered by United Distillers and Blue Circle
