Abstract :
A general model for space-time block coding in multipath channels is developed where narrowband systems can be viewed as special cases of wideband systems. For both the uplink and downlink, the classical space-time code design criteria (diversity gain and coding gain) are investigated. Conditions for achieving full diversity are established. Some optimal minimum metric codes for quasi-static channels exhibit significant gains over comparable known orthogonal or unitary group codes
