Abstract
Block matching is a basic tool in motion estimation, and widely used in image coding. In this paper, we give a parametric representation to block matching, called “parametrized block correlation”. The parametrized block correlation is a quadratic scalar function that represents a local luminance difference associated with the local displacement. By further associating the local displacement with 2D parametric motion models, we can obtain the overall motion parameters that minimize the sum of parametrized block correlations. The advantages in using the parametrized block correlation are justified through the experimental results
