Abstract :
The objectives of this paper were to upgrade, integrate, and automate the McCulloch substations with the existing CRE control system. Using criteria developed through analyses of the existing system and researching advancements in substation multifunction relays and communications equipment, the McCulloch design was implemented. Key features included upgrading the CRE control center, installing multifunctional microprocessor relays as substation controllers, and implementing a communications architecture that would support both SCADA and protection engineering over a single communications system
