Abstract
As technology spawns more intelligent electronic devices (IEDs), the communication protocols that support them also increase. The goal of the project documented in this paper was to design and test a system using several protocol drivers that also act as OPC servers for several different protocols within the same system. This demonstrates that different protocols can coexist and their common OPC interface supports multiple applications on various hardware platforms representing real-world applications. We used readily available OPC servers that could easily be used off the shelf, without software customization
