Abstract :
This paper proposes to apply hierarchical state estimation technique to consolidate the state output of a wide area network. In a wide area network comprising of a large number of interconnection between various utilities of the wide area, it is essential to monitor the state of the entire system. Here a modified coordination technique derived from hierarchical state estimation is proposed to consolidate the state outputs of all the individual entities in the wide area. The method overcomes issues of incoherency and loss of state outputs associated with the heterogeneity of the estimators in each member utility of the wide area. The coordination algorithm was tested on a IEEE 118 bus system by splitting the system into smaller areas
