Abstract
Skoglund, Phamdo and Alajaji (see Proc. IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory, Sorrento, Italy, p.403, 2000) proposed a hybrid digital-analog (HDA) system based on vector quantization (VQ). One drawback of the system proposed by Skoglund et al. is that it only works for transmission rates larger than one (bandwidth expansion). Motivated by this fact, we present a general system that can be used at any transmission rate (bandwidth compression/expansion)
